Dr. Robert
he's always on the case

I have been seeing a lot of this recently, it seems to have become a bit of an epidemic. It's a sort of washed out retro look, rather like what I imagine Jack Kerouac's home movies would look like, assuming he ever made any. It feels all sunny and laid back, with amiable hippy types goofing around apparently sometime in the '60s. They top it off with a quirky, charming new wave folky style song. It's perfectly nice and quite watchable.

I've seen a number of these recently for Orange and in fact I thought this was another in the series. To be honest I was completely surprised when a Heinz Salad Cream label popped up at the end. I had to watch it again to make sure I hadn't imagined things.

On second viewing, I did notice a couple of brief shots of a bottle of Salad Cream, and I realised that the hippy types were having a sort of picnic. Now I may be reading too much into this but I think that Heinz Salad cream boys may have a better reason for using this look than the Orange people.

Heinz Salad Cream has always had `a bit of a nostalgic feel and the retro look fits with the vinegared beetroot and corned beef salads covered with lashings of salad cream that were the mainstay of summer eating in the so called swinging '60s. On the other hand, what relevance does this retro folky hippy stuff have to a thoroughly 21st century telecoms company? I have to say that if it comes to a showdown over the look, I'd give it to the Salad Cream.

Does the look go well with salad cream?

Or does it add a little something to Orange?
