Mr Mustard
he's so mean

Portentous, or what? This is a very good example of the heroic hogwash school of advertising. It’s an impressive looking thing, and the bloke seems to be undergoing a life changing event as he strides purposefully forward through a series of mysterious and wild special effects. What great enterprise is he embarked upon, what epiphany is he boldly approaching, in what manner will his life be enriched and changed forever? We are no doubt supposed to be glued to the screen wondering what this great thing can be, and whether we will have the courage to embrace it as he does when our time comes.
Well folks, the great big thing is in fact, as far as I can gather, a broader broadband form Virgin. That’s it, and the only way his life is going to change is that he will find it easier to sit staring at his computer screen in his front room, while the great big thing that is real life goes on without him.
I can understand why Virgin would want to portray their broader band as some sort of fantastic and heroic achievement, but it just ain’t. Staring at the world through a high res screen is just plain weedy, it’s life by proxy and about as far away from an epiphany as you’re ever likely to get. If you actually want a chance to experience all the majesty that life has to offer, boldly disconnect your broadband, heroically leave your front room and bravely go forth to meet a mate or two down the pub. You never know, something might just happen.
