No wonder the lads love it because while it is a joke it probably makes them feel pretty good about themselves, even if they are only fixing someones’s water pipes. My Trevor likes it, and he thinks it’s a good advert, though he doesn’t really do anything at all, well, not since he did his back in at Alton Towers, and that was years ago.
Now that’s my point really, about something that’s pretending to be a joke, but in fact everyone secretly takes it quite seriously. You can get away with things that you couldn’t normally do – do you see what I mean?
I think that that Ricky Gervaise does a bit of this, he says the most outrageous things about the disabled and people with cancer and all that, and everyone says it’s all right because it’s a joke –it’s not his real opinion, he’s just taking the mickey. Well I don’t know, I think he does it all a bit too well. I think he’s saying what he actually believes, but he’s hiding it behind a joke, so that no one can really see what sort of person he is. That’s my opinion anyway.
