Mr Mustard
he's so mean

We're in the teeth of a global financial meltdown, people are being laid off in their thousands, banks are collapsing daily, we are facing a summer of civil disorder, and will all soon be reduced to eating Spam. But are we concerned by any or all this? Not at all, according to this ad, we appear to be much more traumatised by draining a tin of tuna.
We are beset by problems that are real, very big, and seem to be to a great extent insoluble, so you'll forgive me for not really being able to take this ad seriously. The ad is OK, but in our current situation the problems of draining a can of tuna are pretty low on the agenda and indeed seem laughable. Are people really worrying about this, are they not buying tuna because they have to drain the oil or brine in which it is packed? I can only suppose that this is the case, for I'm sure that John West have done research and identified draining as `a major barrier to tuna purchase.'
If so, people are wetter and daffier than I could have imagined, and perhaps our inability to cope with the real world, even at the level of draining a can of tuna has been instrumental in leading us into the mess in which we now find ourselves. If you want decent tuna you may have to drain it, if you want a decent bonus you may have to earn it, if you want a decent house, you may have to pay for it. That's how it works, it's called cause and effect and when we lose track of it we normally end up in the shit.

Or perfectly sensible?
