the voice of common sense
the voice of common sense
Mon 23 April 2007
terribly over excited and ran out into the street to tell
everyone about it. Now I thought Trident was a nuclear missile and
as the West Indian lad ends up in a boat shouting as he passes Big
Ben I thought it might be one of those anti nuclear protest ads.
But in the end I realised it must be for chewing gum because they
have a slogan that sounds rather rude, mastication for the nation,
I think it was, and Val who I do my focus group with, told me
that mastication is just a long word for chewing.
Anyway in this ad a posh lady who isn't West Indian at all is
meant to be giving a talk about flowers, but starts going on
instead about this Trident Gum in a West Indian accent.
I thought it might be because it had a tropical fruit
flavour from the Caribbean which makes you talk like you come
from there. But Val told me she's convinced it's a secret
government message to do with something called operation Trident
which she says is about trying to deal with guns in the West
Indian community.
To be honest I really don't know what its all about, is it against
guns or for gums?
Maybe its aimed at young people, and I just don't understand.
I asked my daughter, but she just said it's racist and should
be taken off air, so I'm none the wiser really. Honestly the things
they come up with these days.
