I suppose that is what they're trying to tap into in this ad, and it's sort of alright, but I think it could have been so much better. It's a bit slipshod, they don't give it enough reality up front and the way the young buck brings out his ring is pretty naff. They could have given it a real air of quality, with a bit of thought. It's not about money or production budgets, it's about understanding what you're ripping the piss out of. They haven't really got hold of that, and in fact the only thing that makes the whole thing sing is the great look that the bird on the computer gives her beau when he comes in all full of high hopes - it's a cracker.
So what I'm saying is, carry on with the piss takes of the costume drama, but make the set up a bit more realistic, that way the joke will really work. Trust me.
