It's all a load of blokeish medieval nonsense, but it's done with a certain amout élan and éclat, which are French words for style and bazazz.
Why, as a Frenchman, he is exhorting the sadly trashed Englishmen, kicked out of Euro 2008, to pick themselves up and at least bet on the bloody thing, I really don't know. But he does it with real passion and verve, he really knows how to knock out a stirring speech and I genuinely felt that it was almost my patriotic duty to go out there and take a punt on Euro 2008. The ads are well made, and I even went to see the full length version that is on the Partouche website, but I reckon without the magic of Eric they would not have amounted to much.
So I ask again, what has our Eric been doing on the acting front? Why do we not see more of him? He's a real heavy hitter, and he deserves more than commercials for what sounds like a Frog bookie. The last time I saw him in a movie he was the French ambassador in some Elizabethan costume drama, and he was bloody great. Wake up casting agents, there's a great talent out there, lets see a bit more of it.
