We have apparently a savings gap in this country, people are not saving enough, and amiable ads from ING are not really going to make much difference. The fact is, our savings industry is not willing to offer products that make sense to potential savers. They are designed to deliver fat salaries to their idle fund managers and then some dividends to their shareholders. The poor saver, who is supplying the funds for this beano comes very far down the food chain. It is not surprising that people are not interested in these things and prefer to either stick their money under the mattress or spend it on making their lives more bearable.
The fact that the city is now in meltdown, because they have spent all the savers money on themselves or on dodgy American mortgages would indicate that the non savers view was correct. Until the city grows up and decides to offer savings products that deliver proper returns it can expect to continue to suffer from a widening savings gap. Bad luck chaps.
