Dear Prudence
she's out to play

I suppose it had to happen. Girls like to read, girls like chocolate, it's a short move from chick lit to chock late, it's a pretty logical one too, and I'm sure it makes sense to all concerned. I'm not certain that this ad is doing the whole thing any favours though. I couldn't really work out what was going on. Was I being sold books or chocolate, or both? Plus the introduction of those two hams, gurning their way through a chunk of the Great Gatsby, what was that all about?
The big Gatsby film wasn't Robert Redford's finest hour, but he looked a lot more convincing than these two dorks. If, as I suppose I am supposed to suppose, this scene is what the poor woman is imagining as she reads Gatsby then she should throw the book away right now, because for her, it ain't working. And furthermore, just when we'd got used to wallowing through The Great Gatsby with our Galaxy we cut to another book called Chesil Beach, which I'm told is a bit on the heavy side, and not really chick lit material at all.
All in all, I'm at a bit of a loss, but in theory I'm on for it. I'm into chick lit and chocolate and I could relate to some kind of co promotion or whatever they call it. Free books with your Galaxy, or free Galaxy with your books, either way I don't mind, but keep it simple is what I say. We are girls after all.
