"What they've done.."

Dr. Robert
he's always on the case

I may be being rather over logical about this, but I've always had a bit of a problem with idea behind these ads for Fosters Super Chilled. Surely one of the advantages of a beer that is served extra cool is that you don't have to make elaborate efforts to keep it in the shade. Paradoxically this is exactly what these chaps do in this ad and they've been doing it for some time, so I can only assume that the message is getting through, despite the topsy turvey logic.
The fact is, most people do not absorb information in a logical or linear fashion, and I suppose they are just taking out a simple message about cold beer. That being said, I'm sure they could have found a simpler and more straightforward way to get this across. It does seem pretty laboured, and in this particular ad, the chaps plunder an idea from Peter Pan in their efforts to keep their beers in the shade. They steal shadows from other objects, like trees and cars and take them down to the beach.
To be honest it is a bit more charming than some of the previous ads, but even as I describe it, I can't help thinking that it is an extraordinarily complicated, illogical and contrary way of making a simple point. Still, as I said, it seems to work, and irritatingly for us men of science, things do still move in mysterious ways.
